  1. High school education or equivalent.
  2. MCAT (Level 1) with experience or higher certification from the Michigan State Tax Commission.
  3. Experience in residential property appraisal or related experience.

Reports To: Reports directly to Township Chief Assessor

Starting Salary: $30,000 - $34,000

Job Description & Details

The Appraiser I is responsible for inspecting and assessing residential property and land improvements and for measuring and collection of data regarding real property structures within the Township. 

The Springfield Township Assessor’s Department consists of the Chief Assessor, Assessor II, Assessor I and Appraiser I.  The Appraiser I will be involved in maintaining and updating assessment records, assist with routine fieldwork for new construction, additions and demolitions.  They will also update photos and other data into computer files.  Will perform other clerical and office duties as determined by the Chief Assessor.

Required Experience:

  • Experience using specialized software such as BS&A software, APEX IV Sketching software, ARC GIS system and Pictometry, or similar tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans, site plans, and surveys.
  • Knowledge of computers and experience using systems that run the Microsoft Windows software.
  • Must have the ability to perform varying degrees of complex word processing, spreadsheet applications and databases.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including calculator, computer, copy machine, printer, postage machine, and multi-line phone. 
  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and a good driving record.
